Hg

I like mercury. Its Latin name, hydragyrum, means water-silver and that's perfect. I used to play with it when I was little, breaking open thermometers and letting the contents roll around and around in glass jars. It can make you paler too, but its use in cosmetics is banned in most countries because they were giving people heavy metal poisoning. I am thinking of making some bleaching cream like they used in the 'teens and 'twenties, though, because I have acquired a bit of a tan and I actually do have some ammoniated mercury at home with a skull and crossbones on it. Plus I want to feel an affinity with the boy and girl on my Snow White Skin Bleach tin.

mercury and solace
I've always liked Mercury as well. I think my mother telling me not play with thermometers when I was little, because the mercury would breaks into pieces upon pieces upon pieces was my first concept of infinity.

Re: mercury and solace
I had a similar concept when I was little and learned about amoebas (amoebae?).

I was thinking about mercury some more, about its alternate name of quicksilver, and it never occurred to me before that the "quick" in quicksilver is probably not referring to its speed or motion but to its vitality, as in "the quick and the dead." Quicksilver. Livingsilver. Silver made flesh. I like it even more now.

heavy metal poisoning can take years to manifest. Are your nails turning silver?
