Yes, I raided my mother's photo albums when we were home. These are snapshots of snapshots – so sorry.

I can't remember why my brother and I used to give out ribbons at horse shows, but we did. I think it had something to do with my father's job, but for the life of me I cannot imagine what. I never really rode or took lessons until later, but I've always loved horses. That jacket I have on is shiny, shiny silver, and I wore it constantly until I outgrew it. In the mid-'90s I bought an even shinier liquid-silver looking replacement from Freddie Rojas's old line F8, but I couldn't have loved it as much as I loved this one here. (At least I didn't wear the F8 jacket with khakis.) I have no idea who that David Hasselhoff looking dude is, but he scares me.

As you can probably guess, the vampire photos are from Halloween. That's my brother as a devil child and our neighbor Ben as a clown. Both of their costumes are very appropriate, but unlike me they did not attempt to incorporate elements of them into their daily wardrobes. I was not allowed to leave for school wearing the cape, but I did at least reuse it when I played Oberon in a 6th grade production of A Midsummer Night's Dream.

Is your brother younger than you? I'd have definitely pegged you for a younger child (not in a bad way, of course).

My favorite outfit was a purple swiss dot chiffon dress which someone regrettably bought me for Easter, and which I wore for all inappropriate occasions thereafter. At the very least I had to wear the silk rose corsage that came with it. Some thought it didn't go well with my plaid jumpers and the peter pan collared shirts, but I've never been one to pay attention to trends.

Oh, how funny. I am definitely an older child: bossy, independent, and resentful. But I guess I can see why you'd think that, since I act about a thousand years younger than I am.

You were stylish and BOHO! The Olsen twins have nothing on you.

Boho? I always thought it more dissipated, wilted, and Southern, in a sort of Tennessee Williams way. Then my family moved to Manhattan and I pepped up my style a lot.

But you know BOHO (all caps, always) can be applied to absolutely any eBay auction, as long as the seller points out that an Olsen twin or Sienna Miller might wear it. Which means anything at all.

Wilted and Southern is more truly close to my heart, of course. I'd wear Spanish moss if I could.

I very nearly cried when I received this email from a friend yesterday: "My blonde hair, yes, I'm so used to it now that when I got your email, with the pics of me in Austin, I was a little taken aback at first....there are so many shades of blonde...it's not platinum or anything...more like 'honey.' Kind of like Sienna Miller."

Now we must get a friend divorce. And I thought things were going so well!

Oh, horrors! My condolences. With evidence like that, though, you can probably avoid lawyers and take care of the split with a legal document service – perhaps even a 24-hour divorce kiosk.

p.s. S____ says the David Hasselhoff dude is making the horse's ears stand up for the photographer (the photographer who isn't my mom) by distracting him with a toy. Mystery of the ages solved! Horse show photographers do that with computers now, which is totally cheating.

I always reckoned they bandaged them until they were trained to stand up, as my mother-in-law did to her terrier.

Oh goodness, if horses' ears were trained they'd really and truly be dogs! Twitchy, twitchy, twitchy.

Maybe digitizing the Super 8 home movies should be my next project!

SO cute, aaaaaaaaaaaaaaa. My 10 year old self has a major crush on tiny vampire you. Please have a dark-haired child at some point--your handsome features must not go to waste, I demand it!

We can always dye the blondie, right? I keep thinking he will darken naturally. After all, I was nearly as blond as a baby.

I wish cute girls had had the good sense to have crushes on me in elementary school, rather than think I was the strangest boy ever to bring a calf's skull to school in order to accent his tutorial on tarot card reading.
